Tyger Brand Banjos are handmade in the minstrel style one at a time to custom order. The authentically styled features of this historically accurate model include:
Although Tyger Banjos are exquisite works of art, it's the sound of these banjos that is truly outstanding. The combination of natural gut strings, long scale length, custom made minstrel style bridge, bone nut, large skin head, and fretless neck produce an incredibly resonant and booming sound especially in a recommended lower tuning such as eAEG#B. Current options include a "vine-like" carved peghead, ebony heel cap, ebony or burled walnut tailpiece, inlay, exotic wood fingerboards and oxidized hardware. More pictures are available here. After repairing and building instruments for himself and friends, Ty decided to make his hand-crafted banjos available to discriminating enthusiasts of traditional folk instruments, old-time banjoists, minstrels and museums and around the world. Tyger Brand Banjos are used by museums, educators, historians and re-enactors who strive for the pinnacle in authenticity, playablity and tone.
