Airsoft Command

Download the Airsoft for Rookies Manual from the Blackops Medalpad website

The Airsoft for Rookies manual explains everything about airsoft to the newbie - includes weapon choices, airsoft maintenance, basic tactics, standard rules of airsoft and field protocol, and even what to wear on the field.  Download it, read it, and you'll be up to speed in no time!  That way you don't have to bug people (especially me!) with your questions.

Introduction to Airsoft

SOCAL is an unofficial organization devoted to the sport of airsoft in Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego. This website was created for airsoft players to find other players in Southern California. We are not an airsoft group or team, but rather a bridge for people to form their own skirmishes.

The term airsoft refers to a group of airguns that fire 6mm plastic (ABS) BBs. These airguns have a relatively low muzzle velocity of 150 to 400 feet per second.

The guns themselves are made of a mixture of plastic and steel or other alloy. Many Airsoft guns are somewhat lighter in weight than their real counterpart, but some are weighted to feel more like the real thing. Most guns accept magazines that are similar if not identical to their "real" counterparts. The BBs are loaded into the magazine, which is then loaded into the gun.

Many pistols, rifles, shotguns, submachineguns, and even full squad machineguns have an Airsoft counterpart. Many of the most popular models (like the Beretta 92F, Glock 17, and Colt M1911) come in several varieties

Types of Airsoft Products

There are three types of mechanisms that Airsoft guns use:

Spring Action: This refers to a gun that the user must cock each time. When cocked, a gas piston inside the gun is opened to allow air inside and the spring is tensioned. When the trigger is pulled, the spring forces the cylinder to close rapidly, causing a large volume of air to force the BB out of the barrel.

Gas Action: The pellet is forced out of the gun with a release of compressed gas (usually located in the magazine). These are mid to high priced airguns. They are also capable of fully automatic fire. The magazines are usually refillable with gas and BBs.

Electric Operation: The gas-compressor (piston) inside the airgun is driven with an electric motor. These are usually the most expensive of all airsoft airguns and are almost always available in a selective-fire version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are they legal?

Air Soft guns are legal in most states. One should check all local and state laws to make sure of all legal implications regarding Air Soft guns. Because of the Realism if you comit a crime with one of these guns you are subject to the same ramifications as if you committed a crime with a real gun.

How powerful are they? Will they hurt?
No,for the most part they won't.But shooting bare skin will sting a bit. Stock guns cannot penetrate an aluminum can at pointblank range.

How far will they shoot?
Air Soft guns are capable of shooting upwards of 100 yards depending on model type. They have an effective range of about 50 yards.

How loud are the Air Soft guns?
They are quieter than a .22 caliber rifle but louder than a regular air rifle.

How accurate are these guns?
They will shoot within a 2-inch circle at 30 feet.

How much do they weigh?
Generally, they weigh about 50-75 percent of the real gun.

What are they made of?
All guns are molded with metal alloys and high impact ABS and are built very well. Their weight, feel, and functioning parts are very realistic.  From a far distance they will look like a real gun, so please be careful when you are using your airsoft gun.   By no means should you be walking around in a public area showing off your gun.

How do I clean my aegs?
