w Project Leader responsible for the upgrade of Payroll, Accounting, and Labor systems written in 16-bit Micro Focus COBOL version 1.1 to version 4.0, necessary so that these applications could be run on a 32-bit operating system. After automating the process, I monitored the progress and provided assistance to offshore programmers.  
w Primary programmer responsible for a sales force automation tool written in a proprietary language similar to Visual Basic, for a product called “Avenue”, which worked with an Oracle database. 
w Support technician responsible for resolving application issues for Payroll, Accounting and Labor systems written in Micro Focus COBOL using a Btrieve database. I also set up new procedures and automated several processes including mass compiles/links and installation for these applications at new and existing job sites.  
w Reverse engineered an accounting system written for an Argentinean construction company, which needed to be upgraded for Y2K compliance, where most of the source code was missing.

w Designed and coded a vendor managed inventory system interfacing Visual Basic with Micro Focus COBOL, connecting to an Oracle Database, on a Windows NT platform. This online parameterized modular system supported the customer’s requirements by accepting both inventory and order information either manually or electronically and is integrated with a sales order management system, used to forecast future inventory needs.

w Redesigned annuity statement system, including reformatting of statements using SCRIPT, AFP and OGL, adding statements for new companies, reorganizing and streamlining jobs to save processing time and make system more uniform and easily maintainable. 
w Member of team responsible for developing and implementing systems for all new products. My areas of expertise were agent commissions, all agency sales and promotion systems, tax systems, and annuity confirmation, quarterly and annual statements.

w Designed and coded an automated letter writing system where a library of XEROX text was merged with a list of policy or agent numbers, producing variable text letters without manual word processing. Trained users in procedures for requesting specific letters as needed. 
w Member of the team responsible for a major software conversion. Coded several programs performing file conversion, clean-up, reformatting, reporting and error correction.
w Provided assistance and training for PC applications such as OS/2, Windows, various word processors, Micro Focus COBOL, MS-DOS, and file transfers between PC and mainframe to other application programmers in my department.
w Converted programs from assembler to COBOL II and OSVS/COBOL to COBOL II. Modified programs to operate in both MVS and Micro Focus environments. 
w Designed several COBOL submodules such as reading a variable segmented data structure which COBOL could not handle naturally; conversion of the system date to English format; conversion of dates between Gregorian, Julian, and LIFE/70 formats; edit name fields from Last Name, First Name, M.I. to a format suitable for letter addresses and salutations.
w Designed a system to track and report the status of agent licenses. A report was produced and a letter was sent when an agent's license was near expiration. A CICS program permitted updates to the agent's license expiration date after renewal.
w Designed on-line documentation for entire annuity processing system. Gathered requirements from applications developers, operators, and production control staff members. Created a plan for a database that organized the jobs, procedures, files, programs, reports, and forms. 
w Wrote and maintained Assembler, COBOL, CICS and Dyl/280 applications.
