Judy Ahrens "Back-To-Basics" Approach
Judy Ahrens believes that ALL children should be given the OPPORTUNITY to achieve academically. That ideology, along with her passion for a more traditional approach to education, has led to her candidacy for the Westminster School Board again this year.
In order to lift student achievement in Westminster, Judy Ahrens proposes the following:
· Higher academic standards- the use of explicit, systematic and intensive phonics based curriculum, (as adopted in many other school districts in Orange County), eliminate unproved/experimental approaches to learning, such as, "whole language", "group learning" and "new math"
· Parents allowed a more meaningful role in education- textbook selection process should be more "parent friendly", school board meetings should be televised to accommodate the busy schedules of parents
· Administrative and Fiscal accountability- education dollars should be spent in the classroom to ensure our teachers have the tools they need to succeed, eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and social service programs
For eight years Judy Ahrens owned and operated a very successful, licensed, small business providing "in-home" daycare and tutoring for young children in her community. Currently, she tutors only part-time and her service is highly prized. During her son's attendance at Eastwood Elementary School, Judy was both an active PTA and site council member. Last year Judy was selected by the City Council of Westminster to serve on the Community Advisory Group. Judy holds a degree in Business Administration from Cerritos College.
Judy Ahrens is endorsed by State Assemblyman Scott Baugh and Orange County Supervisor Chuck Smith. Judy is not financed or supported by the Westminster Teachers' Union.
