| HotShot Cold Air Intake |
|
After installing my GReddy Exhaust my next step would be to modify the intake. So after doing some quick research
(asking people on the lists & looking at some web pages) I decided to go with the HotShot Intake with a
K&N RE-0930 Air Filter stuck on the end of it. The total bill for the HotShot Tube, K&N, and Screen Filter was
right at $150.00(that includes shipping). I chose the HotShot for a couple reasons. 1) Allot of people are running it and love it. 2) The other intake that was available (PRM) was still fairly new, and was more money. The only advantage I see the PRM having over the Hotshot is that the filter is located at the top of the intake tube rather than the bottom. So those who are worried about water getting into the engine might take some more consideration for the PRM over the HotShot. But since I live in beautiful Sunny So. California I was not to worried about getting water into my engine. Update: 8-22-98 I have some Dyno Runs with the Hotshot installed, and with just the stock airbox. I think you'll definitely be surprised by the results. |

Here are some notes on installing the HotShot Intake. |
|
| First | There is a little vacuum line going into the back of the stock air box. Don't plug it up, or leave it open. There is a little screen filter that can with my kit that just plugs right into the vacuum hose. You might want to cable tie the filter on, as some people have said that theres has fallen off(I haven't had this problem). |
| Second | There is some sensor or electric module attached to the side of the airbox by a single bolt(it has a Mitsubishi logo on the end of it). Just unbolt it from the air box and use a cable tie to Misuses it to the surrounding wires so it does flop around all over the place while you are driving. |
| Third | I wouldn't recommend trying to put the K&N on the end of the HotShot and then shoving it down between the battery and the radiator hoses, and the steel(Stiff) brake line. This is possible but you are very likely to damage your K&N filter on the way down there. So the best way is to just put the HotShot tube into place and then crawl under the car and shoving the K&N filter the the end of the HotShot from under the car. |
| Fourth | When putting the K&N filter on the end of the HotShot tube, there are some 'ridges' inside the K&N that kind of let you know you have put in on all the way. Well if you go by those 'ridges' then your K&N filter will be VERY close to the ground, and if you turn all the way to the right you will probably hit the filter with the edge of your tire. Also if you only put the K&N on up to the 'ridges' you WILL have to cut, or totally remove the splash guard from under the car. So the simplest solution is to shuv the K&N filter up on the HotShot tube an extra inch or so. This way you don't have to worry about cutting the splash shut, hitting the filter with the tire, or the filter being so low to the ground. |
| Fifth | In order to put the filter on from under the car you will have to at least loosen or maybe totally remove the splash shut. When I did mine, I just undid all but one bolt from the splash gshutand then put the filter on. |
| Lastly | Don't forget to hook up the Wires going into the VAF sensor. Because if you start your car without the VAF hooked up, the car will choke, and die. And yes I know this because I forgot to hook mine back up when I installed my HotShot. |

| Here is a couple pictures of the K&N filter, and where it sits up against the splash gaurd. It doens't actually doesn't sit down as low as I was expecting, but check it out for yourself: | |

| Final Notes |
Well the HotShot definatly added more power to my car, but after making some Dyno Runs I have to say I was some what dissapointed with the results. None the less I am still happy with my choice to get the HotShot. Very soon I will be getting the VAF to Throttle Body Elbow, maybe that will help out the HotShot.
Update: 5-16-99
After about a year I replaced my K&N Filter. It was REALLY Dirty. I had actually washed it about every 4 months, but even
that didn't help keep the filter all that clean...
