GReddy Cat-Back Exhaust

After driving my Probe around for a while, I decided it was time for some more modifications. One of the first things on my list was a better Exhaust System. After asking around, I found out that there are two really good exhaust systems for the Probe GT. Borla and GReddy. I chose the the GReddy for two main reasons:
1) I like the single 5" tip design over the Borla twin inter cooled tips.
2) The GReddy is suppose to put out slightly higher HP gains over the Borla.
After deciding on which Exhaust to get, all that was left was to get it! Well as luck would have it some other members on the mailing lists were getting GReddys too. So I ordered mine along with the rest of them from Eddie Wu at CB Performance for $490 + Tax & S+H (You only have to pay tax in CA.)

GReddy Exhause Pipe I received my GReddy Exhaust on 5-29-98(Friday) and had it installed by 5-31-98(Sunday). When the package arrived at work I began to wonder if it would fit in my car??? Well since I don't have the hatch cover on, I was able to fold down the rear seats and the front passenger seat and fit the HUGE box in my car! After I got the box home I opened it up and was very impressed with quality of the exhaust that laid inside the box.

Update 8-23-98: I made some dyno runs with a GReddy installed. If you want to see them just goto the Dyno Page. I will also have some .wav or .mp3 files posted of what the GReddy sounds like!
Update 1-7-99: I finally got around to puting up the sound files so you can download 'em. If your looking for some more Exhaust sound files you can get 'em from Jin's Probe Site
Greddy with HotShot Intake: WAV (240kb)
Greddy with Stock Intake: WAV (240kb)

Preliminary Information

Since I own a 95 Probe GT, the installation should just be a simple bolt on procedure!

NOTE: The 96-97 model Probe GTs have a longer exhaust than the 93-95 Probes. Since the GReddy was probably designed on 93-94 Probe the GReddy will need an extension if you own a 96-97 Probe.

Materials

Note: Some of the tools needed may vary depending on the year Probe you work on.
17mm End Wrench or Socket
14mm End Wrench or Socket
Wire cutters
Probably some other tools too

Basic Instructions

Well I'll just state the obvious Instructions:
1) Unbolt the old Exhaust
2) Bolt on the GReddy
Sound simple right? Well thats what I thought!
This is what I found when I looked under my car. Not quite the thing you want to see... Well after trying for about an hour on Saturday morning to get the bolts loose, I didn't get one of them to budge... but I did manage to nicely round the bolts on the rear!
Well I gave up after an hour of trying, but on the next day(Sunday) I had some help. We actually ended up cutting off the exhaust near the rear bolts. As for the two bolts on the Cat, We put the 17mm End Wrench on them (with about a gallon of WD-40) then laid off to the side of the car and put my foot on the wrench and pushed really hard, and It actually broke both of the bolts loose!
As for the wire going from the frame of the car to the Exhaust we just cut it off and didn't worry about it. Its only a ground wire, that is suppose to cut out radio interference.
Putting on the new GReddy after that was simple! We just bolted it on and it fit perfect! Did I mention it looked even more Perfect! Take a look for yourself!

Notes

Well thats it! After driving around with the GReddy on for a while I must say there is a definite increase in power! It is especially noticeably above 3500 rpm, I would have to say the most noticeable boost is right around 5000-5500 rpm. When you hit that rpm level it just feels like you hit a rocket booster or something!
Well I would defiantly recommend the GReddy to someone in the market for a new Exhaust system..... If you don't mind the $500.00 dollar price tag.
