Probe GT Brake Upgrade Page

After a while my brakes on my Probe GT have begun to deteriorate in performance. So I decided to upgrade them. I started asking other people on the lists what they have gotten as far as brake upgrades. The most readily available parts people mentioned included: Brake Pads, Brake Rotors, and/or Steel-bradied Brake Lines. The more popular Brake Pads include Axxis Metal Masters, or the Porterfield R4S Pads. There are a couple of different types of rotors Including: Slotted, or Cross-Drilled.
So whats the difference and what does each of these do?

Pads
Well this is what i learned as far as the difference in the two mentioned brake pads. Both Brake Pads are very good, with the Porterfields being a better performance Brake Pad. The other difference is Price. I believe the Porterfields cost almost double what the Axxis Pads do.

Rotors
If you are going to replace your Rotors, Why not get better ones? The only difference here really is Price, and Prefrence. Both Slotted, and Cross-Drilled are designed to run cooler. They just go about it different ways. Each way is obvious in the name. So which is better? I can't say, I can only repeat what Iv'e heard. I've heard Slotted Rotors don't get hot enough during normal driving to take advantage of its cooling method. So if this is true, then they are a waste of money. Cross-Drilled Rotors run cooler for normal daily driving becuase there is less surface area on the rotor itself with lots of spaces in between. But then I also heard that people have had problems with them cracking. So when I look at both of these somewhat negative things, I would choose Slotted. Mainly because I wouldn't call my daily driving Normal, and I would hate to have a set of rotors crack on me, forcing me to replace it. Because when you replace Rotors, you should also replace the Brake Pads at the same time. (ending up being more expensive) Plus I don't really like the looks of Cross-Drilled.

Steel-Braided Brake Lines
As simple explination would be: These are just higher grade Brake Lines with a Steel-Braid surrounding keeping the rubber tube on the inside from expanding when you step on the brake pedal REALLY hard.

My Brake Kit
So what did I get? Well I went completely overboard! My Kit included:
  • Front Set of Porterfield R4S Pads
  • Rear Set of Porterfield R4S Pads
  • Front Set of Gas Slotted Rotors
  • Rear Set of Gas Slotted Rotors
  • Goodridge Steel-Braided Brake Lines
  • 2 Bottles of Motul 5.1 Fluid
  • What did this cost me, and where did I get it? I got the kit from Eddie Wu at CB Performance and it came to JUST under $675.00 (like cents under, that includes Tax & S+H). I look at it like this though: If this keeps me out of even one accident, It paid for itself. So here are the pages I have created regaurding my New Brakes.
