The island of Barbados has four distinct sides: the North is windswept and rocky with rough Atlantic waves. The East has picturesque views and large Atlantic waves.  The West faces the tranquil Caribbean sea with expensive resorts and clear, calm azure blue water.  The South (where we stayed) has clear blue water with waves big enough to boogie board on.  The best snorkeling is on the calm west coast, where sea turtles and shipwrecks can be found close to shore.  The constant trade winds keep you comfortable on the island; we didn't find the humidity a problem at all.  The temperature year-round is 70-76 at night and  80-86 during the day...real paradise!  The people of Barbados, called "Bajans" (whom we made many friends with during our two-week stay) are so genuinely upbeat and friendly, it was remarkable.  The relaxed pace and style of island life (even for an island of 268,000 people) has obviously made an impact on the Bajans, as it did on us and hopefully will you, too!
