- The NextStep Sound and Music Program List contains information and descriptions of most of the audio and DSP applications available for NextStep/OpenStep.
- NextMusic is an effort to disseminate information about music and DSP related topics in the world of NeXTStep/OpenStep. There are several ways to get information:
- Peanuts is a major NextStep archive site which is located in Germany.
- Peanuts USA is a mirror site in the US of the Peanuts archive.
- next-ftp.peak.org is another major NextStep archive site (formerly located at ftp.cs.orst.edu) which is located in the USA.
- Lighthouse is a major NextStep 3rd party software house. They have very agressive academic pricing.
- Stone Design is another major NextStep 3rd party software house.
- MiscKit contains some sound objects.
- The Calliope music notation editor.
- Using LaTeX2e with NeXT-TeX is no problem. The NeXT-TeX package comes with the old LaTeX209 macros. Just install the whole package, get the 2e macros from one of the CTAN archives (ftp.dante.de, ftp.shsu.edu, or ftp.tex.ac.uk), install them, and you are finished. (If you know what you're doing, you can throw away the old 209 macro files.)
- I've been told that NeXT-ppp2.2 will get you up and running in about 10 minutes (+ however long your chat script takes to setup). There are also several frontends available.
- source code for GIFTOOLS
- Running Start's HomePage - These guys are NextStep Developers. This site has some free software.
- To see what PixelMagician can do for Web graphics, check out http://www.melvin.com/.
- The EnhanceMail bundle comes highly recommended.
- NXplot3d is a 3d function/data plotting program which is uses the RenderMan kernel. It can plot 3d functions (4d with time), mesh data, scatter plot data, and now, USGS Digital Elevation Maps.
- Pyro is a CPU replacement for the Nextstation (25 MHz ==> 50 MHz). Note: This product is being discontinued on 15 April 1996.
- DeepSpace Technologies is marketing a laptop set up with NextStep.
- RDI makes a sparc2 laptop called the "PowerLite" which supports NS 3.3, and Solaris 1.1.2 or 2.4.
- Zyxel makes serious modems with advanced features.
- Singular Solutions' A/D64x is an A/D converter specifically for use with NeXTStep. The person to talk to is Steve Klein.
- Ariel ProPort is a complete (A/D and D/A) audio interface for the NeXT DSP port.
