Description:	UNIX tools for analysis, transformation and synthesis of musical sounds.

Spectral Modeling Synthesis (SMS) is a set of techniques for the analysis,transformation and synthesis of musical sounds. The goal of SMS is to geta general and intuitive sound representation based on analysis, from whichwe can manipulate musical parameters while maintaining the perceptual identitywith the original sound when no transformations are made.

For an exhaustive presentation of the SMS technique read the article:"Musical SoundModeling With Sinusoids Plus Noise". But if you are in an hurryyou can just look at the analysis/synthesis diagrams.

Among the programs included in the package we should mention:

• smsAnal : analysis program.
• smsSynth : synthesis program.
• smsReSynth: resynthesis program (no transformations).
• smsPrint : program to print the contents of analysis files.
• smsClean: program to clean analysis files.
• smsMod: program to modify analysis files.
• smsResample: program to resample analysis files.
• smsReverse: program to reverse analysis files.
• smsSynthDet: synthesis program that uses a time domain implementation of the deterministic synthesis.
• sndHybrid : program to morph two sound files using the STFT.

All these programs are written in C and C++ and have been tested in several flavors of Unix machines. To download the source code for all the software press sms.tar.Z (version of 8/11/96).
