Golf Without Pain
The Golfer Flexibility and Hip Rotation.
Repetitive stress of the hip joint, in everyday life as well as golf,
can cause subtle stiffness in the hip joint. Even the slightest tightness
can begin to alter the hip’s range of motion.
When the hip is stiff, hip rotation is restricted, the body automatically
attempts to compensate for this lack of movement - with the lower back.
The lumbar spine is not constructed to rotate to a great extent. This
compensation by the lower back for lack of hip rotation can lead quickly
to back injury and/or back pain as a result of torsion of the golf swing.
In addition, if the hip is not fully rotated, the foot in turn can be
affected during a swing and may flatten slightly while trying to accommodate
for this loss of range of motion. The flattening of the foot can stretch
ligaments unduly on the bottom of the foot and result in a painful heel.
Any increase in hip rotation that you gain through training will help
save your back. Improvement in hip joint mobility dramatically reduces
the possibility of stressing the lower back during golf.
Unfortunately, regaining and increasing mobility of the hip is difficult
due to the inherent stability of the hip joint.
HOWEVER, I can teach you specialized exercises used specifically for
recovering, increasing and maintaining this flexibility.
During training we focus on consistent mobilization of the hip joint,
stretching with flexibility exercises.
This training ultimately leads to a more efficient and powerful swing
as it simultaneously decreases the possibility of back injury, heel,
and elbow pain.
