13th Amendment to the
Constitution of the United States
The 13th amendment is an amendment written to the Constitution of the United States. It is the 13th amendment out of the 27 amendments.
Section1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have power
to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
The amendment
had to be ratified by a maximum of twenty-seven states of the thirty-six
states.
The
ratification was finally finished the 6th of
December, the year of 1865

The importance of the thirteenth amendment was to make Law what was stated in the "Emancipation Proclamation" (a speech made by Abraham Lincoln) try to free the United States of slavery. You can learn about the emancipation proclamation below.
